What Is a Spring Brake Chamber?
A spring brake chamber is a dual-function air brake component that handles both service braking and emergency/parking braking. It combines a standard service chamber (single diaphragm) with a spring-actuated parking brake section (power spring).
When air pressure is applied, the service diaphragm activates the brakes during normal driving. When air pressure is released — for parking or in the event of air loss — the power spring automatically applies the brakes, delivering fail-safe stopping power across drive and trailer axles.
1. Industry-Standard Type 30/30 Spring Brake Chambers
The standard workhorse for North American heavy-duty Class 8 trucks, tractors, and tandem-axle trailers. Our Type 30/30 Spring Brake Chambers feature 30 sq. in. effective area on both service and parking sections, delivering FMVSS-121 compliant stopping torque and parking hold. Available in both Standard Stroke (2.5") and Long Stroke (3.0") configurations for enhanced push-rod reserve travel.
2. Type 24/30 & Type 24/24 Combination Chambers
Engineered for specialized vocational trucks, heavy utility trailers, and clearance-constrained axle suspensions. BRC Type 24/30 & 24/24 Chambers pair a compact 24 sq. in. service chamber with high-output parking springs, providing optimal brake balance without chassis interference.
3. Compact Type 20/24 Spring Brake Chambers
Designed for medium-duty commercial vehicles, bus chassis, and specialty low-profile trailer axles where full Type 30 housings cannot fit. Our Type 20/24 Spring Brake Chambers deliver calibrated proportional force to prevent wheel hop while guaranteeing emergency mechanical lockup during pressure failure.
4. Pre-Caged Type 30/30 Piggyback Replacement Kits
Cut service bay downtime in half during spring section overhauls. BRC Type 30/30 Piggyback Kits arrive factory pre-caged with safety release tools pre-installed. Fleets can replace failed emergency springs and diaphragms without unbolting the foundation mounting bracket or disconnecting the push-rod linkage.
Spring Brake Chamber FAQs
Fail-Safe Parking Power.
Air Applied
Air pressure pushes the diaphragm to apply service brakes during normal driving. Completely independent from the parking spring.

Mechanical Spring Applied
When air is released (or lost), the powerful steel spring expands to mechanically lock the brakes. A vital fail-safe mechanism.
Where Spring Brake Chambers Are Used
Spring brake chambers are used on heavy commercial vehicles wherever both service braking and emergency/parking braking are required.
Heavy-Duty Trucks
Class 7–8 trucks using S-cam drum brake systems. Steer, drive, and tag axle configurations.
Commercial Trailers
Dry van, flatbed, reefer, and tanker trailer axles. Provides fail-safe parking brakes for unattended trailers.
Transit Buses
City and school bus applications requiring reliable emergency braking on urban routes.
Severe-Duty Vehicles
Refuse trucks, dump trucks, and off-highway equipment operating in high-cycle environments.
What Makes BRC Spring Brake Chambers Reliable
Dual-Diaphragm Design
Separate service and parking diaphragms operate independently. If one function fails, the other remains operational.
8-Gauge Steel Housings
Heavy-gauge steel withstands the sustained spring pressure of parking brake engagement without deforming.
Epoxy-Coated Power Springs
Internal springs are epoxy-coated to prevent rust flaking — the leading cause of parking brake failure in aftermarket chambers.
Long-Stroke Options
Type 30/30 LS chambers available for high-wear applications where standard stroke is insufficient to maintain brake adjustment.

See why maintenance directors and owner-operators trust BRC Spring Brake Chambers: Heavy-Duty OEM Replacements.
"We've been using BRC Spring Brake Chambers: Heavy-Duty OEM Replacements across our entire 300-truck fleet. The durability is excellent. Shipping took an extra day on my last order, but the product itself is rock solid."
Michael T.
Fleet Maintenance Director
"Shipped fast and bolted right up. The quality of the heavy-gauge steel on these Spring Brake Chambers: Heavy-Duty OEM Replacements is noticeably better than the cheap imports I was buying before."
Sarah J.
Independent Owner-Operator
"I've installed hundreds of brake chambers. The clamping force and diaphragm quality on these BRC units are identical to what you get from the factory. Packaging could be slightly better, but parts were undamaged."
Robert P.
Heavy Duty Technician
"As a heavy-duty shop, we need parts we can trust. These Spring Brake Chambers: Heavy-Duty OEM Replacements are exact drop-in replacements for Bendix systems. Highly recommended."
David L.
Repair Shop Owner
"Good quality chambers. The threads on the mounting bolts were clean and the nuts spun right on. Minus one star because they didn't include the clevis pin on my specific model, but overall great value."
Carlos E.
Diesel Mechanic
"Our customers constantly ask for BRC by name now. The return rate is virtually zero and the bulk pricing is unbeatable for the quality."
Elena M.
Parts Manager
"We put these through hell on our logging routes. These chambers hold pressure better than anything else we've tried."
Marcus R.
Logistics Manager
"Good chambers, but FedEx lost the first package. BRC customer service replaced it quickly. The product itself is 5 stars, giving 4 because of the shipping hassle."
Jim B.
Shop Foreman
"Perfect fitment. The pushrod length was exactly as specified and I was back on the road in an hour. Definitely buying from BRC again."
Thomas G.
Owner-Operator
"Decent product for the price. I wish the stroke length indicator was painted a slightly brighter color, it gets covered in grease fast. But mechanically they are flawless."
